Christian LUTZ – 47years old – married – two children
My professional and artistic career is divided into two quite distinct periods. The first one is rather traditional whereas the second one is a real break and a very clear orientation towards artistic creation by mainly using the technique of glass blown with the cane.
The first period can be summarized as follows : after higher studies of economy, I am brought to choose an activity of tax lawyer, activity which I still carry on, but as a part-time job. During this same period, I was filled with wonder by technical achievements of some glassmakers but also very far from thinking that I would be able to make (or blow) any object out of glass.
The second period begins just before my forties. An imperative need for artistic creation and a persistent attraction for glass led me to seek actively for a professional teaching. It was given to me by Xavier de Mirbeck, then by Patrick Lepage and finally by Allain Guillot. At the same time, I had the opportunity to learn how making glass beads with Kristina Logan.
Thanks to a friend who had a similar career as mine - Alain Steinmetz – “I crossed the Rubicon” in 2001, by creating my own workshop in Brittany and decided to make “glass blown with the cane” a profession.
I want my activity of glassmaker to be centered on single works creation. Even if I am very respectful of Itten's principles learned in painting I allow myself all forms and colors' combinations.
To be continued…
